Hemp Seed Oil vs CBD Isolate vs Full Spectrum Hemp Extract
CBD is suddenly everywhere. Everyone is talking about all the potential benefits – from healthier skin to better sleep to emotional benefits – but with so many products flooding the stores, how do you know what you’re buying?
First and foremost, you need to understand that there are 3 main types of “CBD” being sold right now… and they are very different. One of them – “Hemp Seed Oil” – isn’t really CBD at all.
Hemp Seed Oil:
Hemp Seed Oil (also called cannabis sativa seed oil) is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant. It contains no CBD and delivers none of the benefits of CBD. Many companies prey upon consumers who assume that the word “hemp” and “cannabis” on the ingredient list means that they can expect all the various benefits of CBD, but this is simply false advertising. In short, if you’ve ever purchased a “hemp” or “CBD” product that shows “hempseed oil” in the ingredients (and likely been disappointed that it didn’t work well) … you didn’t actually purchase CBD.
CBD isolate does contain actual CBD and is more than just a marketing gimmick like Hempseed oil. CBD isolate is extracted from the entire plant – including the leaves and flowers that contain the CBD – and the chemists carefully “isolate” the specific CBD. CBD is just one of the dozens of cannabinoids that are found in the hemp plant. While CBD Isolate can serve as a valuable source of pure CBD, the process removes all the other valuable cannabinoids, terpene.
Full-Spectrum hemp extract:
Full spectrum hemp extract is also derived from the whole plant and a healthy dose of all the cannabinoids that were in the plant. Studies have shows that the many benefits of CBD are greatly improved by the presence of all the other cannabinoids and terpenes in the hemp plant – a phenomenon called “the entourage effect”.
Thanks to the Entourage Effect, topicals with full-spectrum hemp extract deliver the best results. Furthermore, it is often considered closer to the original plant, and is therefore the most authentically natural. It undergoes less processing when compared to isolates.
